On June 8, Russian Aerospace Forces participated in military drills aimed to destroy NATO warships led by USS Porter of the U.S. Navy based in the city of Constanța, Romania, said Vadym Skibitsky, spokesperson of Ukraine’s military intelligence at the press briefing.
Four Russian TU-22M-3 bomber jets from the 22nd Fighter-Bombing Air Force Brigade with a permanent base in Engels, Saratov Oblast participated in battle manoeuvres. “They were accompanied by four SU-27 fighter jets, while the aviation and radio oversight has been conducted by A-50U airplane,” added Skibitsky.
The drills took place immediately after the Aviation Darts 2016 training finished in Crimea, which has been annexed by Russia in 2014. According to Skibitsky, Russia’s belligerent stance is especially concerning on the eve of NATO Summit in Warsaw where security threats on the Black Sea region will be discussed.
