This opinion was expressed by Presidential Commissioner for the peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions Iryna Herashchenko in an interview with DW, wrote UNIAN.

“There is no desire to release anyone, there is a desire to blackmail Ukraine. I do not exclude that Russia plans to blackmail the world with Ukrainian hostages until the EU debate on sanctions, then Russia will probably release them, thus, trying to negotiate the lifting of sanctions”, – she said.

As known, on December 21, 2015, the EU extended the duration of sanctions imposed on Russia to July 31, 2016, because of  Russia’s ongoing aggression in eastern Ukraine.

According to the SSU, in general, 3004 people who were in captivity in Donbas militants were “relieved and found”.  “66 of them were the fighters of volunteer battalions, 1111 military personnel, 39 volunteers, 26 representatives of the State Border Service, 112 members of the Interior Ministry, 264 from the National Guard, 1,386 civilians, including more than 20 journalists”, – told the SSU Head’d advisor Yurii Tandit to DW.

As Iryna Herashchenko stated earlier, release of prisoners should be discussed within the meetings of Norman Quartet.
